Welcome to the FIRST Chesapeake Knowledgebase! It is our goal to use this platform to provide a single place of reference for volunteer-centric documentation, specifically the under-documented aspects that are unique to FIRST Chesapeake events. As such, we split the knowledgebase between the two FIRST programs that FIRST Chesapeake hosts events for: FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition.

Event Streaming Management

Documentation for the platform that turns event livestreams into published match clips.

Knowledgebase version 26.11.0 (updated 10/1/26)

Changes from v26.10.0:

  • Updated the Event Streaming Management manual for the latest platform release: the YouTube preview setting and End preview, sending AV1, HEVC or VP9 video from OBS to YouTube and the new “Push failing — retrying” status, the setup-day test video for the day before an event, which events’ match lists client members can see, plain-language reasons on upload errors, and the slower check interval for signs the platform doesn’t control.

Changes from v26.9.0:

  • Updated the tool that builds this site to Quartz 5. Page addresses are now all lowercase; old addresses, bookmarks and QR codes redirect to the new ones. The footer now shows the Quartz version.
  • Kept the protection against unsafe page headers in the new version.

Changes from v26.8.0:

  • Updated the Event Streaming Management manual for the latest platform release: events now complete themselves after their stream window (Clear Stale is gone, and Reopen is for completed events), new warnings when YouTube hasn’t started playback or OBS sends no audio, plain-language status labels and greyed-out controls in the OBS dock, re-sending expired invites and the rules for disabling admins, rotating stream keys from the admin page, removing or disconnecting a YouTube channel, and what happens to a hand-set stream window when FIRST reschedules an event.

Changes from v26.7.0:

  • Brought the Event Streaming Management manual up to date with the platform: greyed-out controls that explain why (🔒), the YT Restream states and standby slate, a new YouTube Broadcasts guide (broadcast days, replacing a broadcast, Delete on YouTube), a troubleshooting section for when YouTube shows the stream as healthy but it won’t play, pre-event tests and the stream window, field locks, invite expiry, the updated OBS plugin installer, and a full table of what each role can do.

Changes from v26.6.0:

  • Updated the Event Streaming Management manual: a Copy button for stream keys, what to do when a clip is held and retries, how to rotate a key, upload size limits, confirming a drift, client test events, and a fix for choosing the right YouTube channel.
  • Applied security and maintenance updates to the tools that build this site.
  • Hardened how page settings are read, to block unsafe page headers.
  • Site updates are now published by version tag; the README explains how.

Changes from v26.5.0:

  • Added the Event Streaming Management section, covering event operators, client administration, and system administration for the event streaming/clipping platform.

Changes from v26.4.1:

  • Added information on wireless mic frequency conflicts (how to detect & fix) to stage 2b instructions.
  • Added links to public FIRST Chesapeake event resources to both A/V home pages.

Changes from v26.4.0:

  • Fixed syntax issues causing improper rendering of collapsible step boxes.

Changes from v26.3.0:

  • Added articles for FRC Pit Power.
  • General editorial pass on all FRC articles (to fix image dimensions, make editorial fixes, etc.)
